john deere 855
I have a John Deere 855 that the spring that holds the PTO in the on position broke. I was able to fix that no problem. The issue I ran into was that there is a torsion spring that mounts on to the bottom part of the lever. Not sure what purpose it serves. I could not find in the tech manual or by looking in the parts manual how to install it. It works fine without it but I am one who likes to have the correct parts installed and not just it works so forget about it. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks

Went through the same thing on my 955 a few months ago. It took quite a few beers to figure out the torsion spring, especially when there is nothing there to start with. Deere's parts diagram shows it, helped me a little.

It's a tough place to get a picture of, I'll try later today.

The torsion spring helps hold the lever up.

I did look at that picture. I did hookit up so the tension was holding it in the on position. When I went to disengage it seemed to want to pull it away from the magnet switch. I didn't run it but thought that would not allow the PTO to disengage if it puuled away from magnet switch. Thanks

Thanks for the pictures. That is how i thought it should be. Does your lever stay in the off position when you pull it down. Mine wanted to pull away from the magnet switch. Could that be an issue with the switch magnet not strong enough? Again thanks for you help and pictures
