I am looking at a 737 zero turn and wonder if anyone out there has an opinion. I now mow about 12 jobs, ranging in size from residential lawns to several acreages and one cemetery. Last year I had 102 mowing days.

I currently have a 718 Grasshopper that is a terrific machine but is getting tired - understandable considering the grass it has mowed. 3 years ago I was mowing seven (7) township cemetaries plus 2 other acreages and 3 residential lots. The township cemetaries ranged from 2 to 8 acres.

I am keeping the Grasshopper as a back-up and have a chance to buy a 737 with 50 hrs. I had not considered anything other than Grasshopper but the John Deere is an awfully good deal. It's all about operating costs. If it's not this John Deere it's back to Grasshopper. It must be a workhorse and managable to maintain.

Which deck is on it, the 7-Iron or the 7-Iron II? If memory serves, the 737 is a good machine, the only issue I remember hearing about, on www.Lawnsite.com, was the fact that the deck did not stick out and it could be difficult to trim up close with it. Keep in mind I have not had a 737, I just bought a used 727 and I am still sorting it out, this will be my first season with it. General opinions on Lawnsite.com is that the JD 700 series were good machines and the new 800 series are junk.

Thanks IXLR8. I will keep my front mount Grasshopper so I can do close mowing. The JD will be for open mowing. The mid-mount will better serve hauling since I will be transporting both mowers. By the way, the deck is the 7-iron II.

The 7-Iron II is the better deck, generally considered to be one of the best out there. Depending on price... sounds like it could be a good deal. You might be able to get better feedback over at lawnsite.com, go to the commercial forum and ask them.

737 is an excellent Z. Cut qaulity is hard to beat! Stay away from the Z800 Series unless
you need a boat anchor.

I think I might have responded to this thread in another forum, but I think the 737 is a great machine. My dad had a 757 (very similar) and it cut great. Good machines and far better than the new stuff out by JD to replace them.
