Today I made a stand for my 62D mower. I also used following a post by KennyG: 1/2" black pipe and 5/8 rod.
My only problem and Gary Flowler is correct the 5/8 rod doesn't exactly fit, and I had no easy way to mate the two together.
I had my local Home Depot Depot use a 36" long black pipe and cut it into 2, 15" long pieces without threads. I deburred them at home
The 5/8 rod I cut into 4 pieces with a hand hack saw, and after applying some graphite I pounded the rods into the pipe ends with a 3lb hammer.
Mind you I had to really pounded hard enough that I really rounded over the end. I can't imagine they would ever come out especially for what I am using them for.
I cleaned the ends up with a grinder so they would fit the wheels.
My finished product has 3" of rod sticking out each end. I built in a little slop just in case I decided to visit a welder, and have them tack welded, but again I don't think I'll need that.
Drilled holes for hitch pins or cotter pins, and drilled a hole in the black pipe for the latch that sets the mower wheel height.
I added large washers, and took KennyG advice again and ordered 10" wheels.
Not having a welder or lathe I was pleased with the result and it sure does save space standing the 62D vertically.
There are photos around, but if you need more I will gladly post some tomorrow.
PS thanks KennyG
