John Deere 5410
Hi I have a John Deere 5410 that has 610 hours on it .it's always been kept in a shed .I used it about a month ago to bushhog and it worked perfect but I went to start it the other day and the steering will barely work also the front end loader is sluggish .all of it seems like it's not getting enough hydraulic oil to it .the hydraulic oil is full looks brand new .it's almost as if the oil is bypassing.i had a hydrostatic mower one time that had power steering and sometimes the deck lift lever wouldnt return to neutral position and it would act just like this does but the only remote lever is in neutral position on the tractor .I was wondering is there some kind of lever wouldnt r know or something on the tractor that could have accidentally gotten moved to create this problem .I can't find anything but I thought someone else might have had the same thing happen to them .I guess my next step will be to replace oil filter and check the screen in the back .It just seems like if that was the problem then it would have gradually gotten worse over time .it worked perfect the last I used and the oil looks like you just poured it out of the can.if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it very much .

The only thing I can think of is what you said, check the filter and screen. I’m assuming the fluid has been changed at least once with new filter and the screen cleaned.

If the screen doesn't help, another thought is checking the short 2 diameter hose connecting your hydraulic pump suction tube to your pump. That could be sucking air if it's cracked or damaged and starving the pump.
You're having issues with the steering as well as the FEL which involves both halves of your hydraulic pump and two valves. I'm thinking that the likelihood that any two of those would have failed at the same time to give you those symptoms is pretty low; so it would seem that the issue is probably further up back the line in the suction system. And the two most likely points in the suction system are the filter and that hose connector

Thanks for your knowledge I appreciate it .I'm gonna try and change the oil and filter and see what that does .and I'm gonna take the back screen out and make sure it's clean .it just made me think a lever was cutoff or in the wrong position because it happened all of a sudden .when. I parked it last the thing steered perfect and the loader worked great too .I've looked everywhere though and I can't find anything along those lines .I did read somewhere that someone had a similar problem and an o ring had broke on the filter .I assumed it was the one right next the part that screws on .if that happened it could have happened all of a sudden thanks again.for Taking time to answer

Thanks for your help .I guess I'm going to change the oil and filter first and see what that does .the last time I used it it steered perfectly and loader worked great and I figured a filter blocking would gradually get worse .however I read something somewhere where a guy had a similar problem and it would up being an o ring breaking I. The filter .I assumed it was the o ring just under the mounting plate of the filter .I guess that would cause it to flow back to the sump .I'm also gonna clean the screen in the Back while Ivr got all the oil drained out. Thanks again

When I changed mine last time it looked clear on the dipstick but when I drained it it wasn’t as clean as I thought. Not black like engine oil but not brand new either. As I recall it 150 hours on that hydraulic oil.

The screen in the back is the one that will starve the pump if it's clogged up.
Check rubber parts 14 and 16 for sucking air:
