While using the my tractor I heard and felt a loud "pop" after which I could not curl the bucket of the loader.

The steering, lift arm and the three point hitch work fine.

No leaks.

When this happened last year with the lift arm, I found the cable from the joystick had snapped, so this time I replaced the other cable, but that was not the problem.

After some research on this site I realized that I can switch the quick connects on the back of the tractor and if the lift still works, then I have isolated the problem to the hydraulic pistons on the loader. If the lift does not work when I switch the lines, and the bucket curls, what does that mean?

My internet connection is 45 miles from the tractor, so I would appreciate any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this before I head back out there.

Thank you!

Try resetting the QD's.

You could also try removing all fittings off the valve bucket ports and bump the lever to see if there is flow. If you have flow on both ports, then the QD's are suspects.

Sorry..what are QDs and how do I reset them?

QD's are quick disconnect fitting s that snap together.

Just unplug and replug.

If no flow to cyl, the QD might be jammed and needs replacing.

If you can't find qd's, you could get by with hyd unions that couple two hoses together.

The curl function hoses can be switched with the lift hoses to check if curl functional.

If the QD on the curl side of the cyl is bad, that will not help.

A hose union is a positive check.

If the cyl does not curl with a union installed, then the cyl or valve is at fault.

I switched the QDs and still have lift but not curl capabilities. Does this mean there is a bad piston? How can I figure which one?

Remove one of the curl cyl and plug the hose and try to curl. If it will not curl, do the other cyl.

It may be that the piston nut came off the piston and the fluid is bypassing.
