if I push on the brake pedal it will go down if I really stand on it,and the brakes will work but I mean really stand on it,but to release the brakes I have to grab with both hands and pull it back up....so I havent used the brakes in a couple years...but where I live is FLAT so not that big a deal unless I go get diesel on the tractor...master cylinder?

Have you applied your favorite penetrating oil to the brake pedal pivot pins & bushings??

TractorData.com John Deere 5200 tractor information = basic info

www.jdparts.com = online parts manual. it looks like both left / right side rear brake pedals attach directly to the break valve/s themselves. it looks like there might be an adjustment screw to adjust the breaks. as far as if they are loose or to tight. wondering if someone tightened things to much or vibrated loose / tighten some how.

granted i do not have a clue about your tractor. and i am no mechanic. but if pentrating oil is not loosing things up. or rather the pedals themselves are moving freely and are being rough to move at the valve. i might suspect some sort of valve adjustment.

going back to your last post... and Tx jim post. is the pin that holding the break pedals bent? rusted up pretty good?

that pin is just like a "door pin" you find in all regular doors in your home to buildings to other. pull the pin out soak it down with penetrating oil and clean it up along with the bushings. and the holes in the pedals that the pushing go into. everything should rotate freely.

if you are only half way pulling pin out. or some such. everything will end up bind up on the valve. pull the pin out and put it back in after cleaning stuff up.
