John Deere 5105
I am new to the forum and don't have a lot of knowledge about hydraulics. Today the hydraulics stopped working on my 2002 JD 5105- front end loader, 3 point, and steering. It was intermittent at first and then went out. The tractor has about 700 hours on it and the filter has been changed at about 500 hours. The screen was not cleaned or changed out. Any advice on what to do first? Thanks.

Clamps are tight. Is there a trick to removing the screen, it seems like it is stuck. Also, is the hydraulic oil from Tractor Supply good to replace it with or should I use the stuff from the John Deere dealer.

Thanks,

While in a different place, the pickup screen on my 5210 was not hard to get out. I have attached the tech manual page, it may provide you with some other information. I wanted to see if the operators manual gave some other information, it did not, but have included a link to it. Take care getting it out as they are not cheap. You may have a better memory than me, but remember which end came out first.

If this does not correct the problem, post back and I will look at the tech manual and see, if there is any other information which may help.

I would go with JD hydraulic fluid. It is more expensive, but then you do not change it all that often. Also if there are a couple JD dealers close, give them a call as when I did mine one dealer was much cheaper than another.

I did get the screen out, it is completely clogged up. I will clean, replace filter, and refill with new oil.
Thank you for the advice and help. I will post back with the results.

Been using the TSC brand of hydraulic oil for a while without issue. It meets JDs spec's.

I cleaned the pickup screen with solvent and a toothbrush, it was completely clogged up. I replaced the spin on filter and hydraulic oil with JD Hy Gard. I debated using TSC brand as it is about half the cost, but that is what I used before. Don't know if that was a factor or not. Hydraulics are back on line, praise the Lord, the pump still works.
Thanks for the help and advice.
