Last year, I could not start my tractor a couple of times. My mechanic explained that there was no fuel pump between the tank and the fuel filter and it had lost prime. He advised me to leave my tractor parked aimed downhill and with a full tank. He suggested that he replace my fuel line when he gave my tractor its annual service.
This spring, there was diesel fuel on the grass below my fuel filter. I found that the starter and engine block below the fuel filter were wet with diesel fuel. However, the engine started immediately.
I thought that perhaps the fuel had dripped after having primed it last year. So, I used a mild degreaser to clean around and below the filter. A few days later, I found that the surfaces were again wet from fuel.
My mechanic has recently had heart bypass surgery and is thus unavailable. So, I decided to replace the fuel line from the tank to the filter myself. I found that it is about eight feet of 3/8 I.D. fuel hose. HOWEVER, I CANNOT SEE BEHIND THE FILTER WHERE THE SUPPLY LINE ATTACHES.
Does anyone have any advice as to how to diagnose and stop this fuel leak?
