Comparison John Deere 5100e OR Mahindra 85 m-Power

Hi All,

We are looking to purchase a new tractor for our small horse ranch. We have currently 70 head and feed 2 or 3 large 1500lb bales a day, plus moving snow, mud , manure and what ever else needs to be done. The choices are either the John Deere 5100E or the Mahindra 85 m-Power. Plans would be to own this tractor for as long as possible since the new tractor is replacing a 40 year old massey 1080.

What is your dealership network like for each tractor? How close to each? A dealer can make or break your new investment. Looking at the specs, they are very comparable tractors, except for HP. I personally think the deer is the nicer of the two machines. Doesnt look like the M85 has any of the tier 4 emmision stuff on it yet. You might also want to look at the John deere 5085e would be identical to the Mahindra 85 and save you about 4k.

Are you going to be making your own hay? upgrading any other equipent? Just moving round bales and snow is not a HP intenstive chore. Manure is a little bit of another story depending on how big your spreader is. Could you give us some more info?
