Hi everyone.
I've been "lurking" on the site off and on for a while and have gained enormous knowledge (compared to where I started) from y'all's generosity. I'm currently working through the Columbia Gorge online hydraulics class to get a better understanding of hydraulics (huge thanks to ... drat, I can't find the link... but truly a huge thanks to the poster who linked to it).
I currently have a JD 4120 with a 400X FEL but will hopefully (in the next few days) be selling it and getting a 5085M with a H240 FEL as well as an Everything Attachments construction bucket/grapple combo and a box blade and/or land plane (among other things). I have about a 1 mile gravel drive to maintain as well as numerous trails through the hilly woods of a 75+ acre piece of land.
The new tractor is a "dealer demo" with less than 150 hrs that is being sold as "new" at a significantly reduced price (and great JD financing).
As it stands now, it has 2 mid SCVs and three rear SCVs.
At my request, the dealer is installing a third function mid SCV with thumb switch for the loader.
Oddly, the dealer states that JD doesn't offer a "top and tilt" kit for the 5085M.
I am certain this has been covered in other threads and I welcome a pointer to them but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for:
Since I have three "unused" rear SVC valves and lever controls for each independently, is it just so easy as measuring the length of travel of the top link and whichever drawbar has the turnbuckle and ordering the right length/diameter hydraulic cylnder to replace them?? (Obviously I would need the send and return hoses to connect to the SCVs). Or are both drawbar arms generally replaced?
Is there something I'm missing?
I apologize in advance if this has been exhaustively covered elsewhere.
I welcome any feedback or information.
Thanks!
AW

Just got through doing this on my Kubota. While you can certainly purchase cylinders from several sources, you will probably have to cut the ends off and reweld new ones on. My suggestion is read through some of the threads on this topic.

I got a lot of good advice from MountainView and Kennys bolt on hooks. I had two issues on my install. One being that the cylinder movement was much too fast and the other was that the implement would not hold in position. Flow reducers took care of the jerky movement and because my Kubota valves would leak down, I had to install pilot check valves on each cylinder. This made for a lot of extra plumbing. Good luck.

Thanks tvman and MtnVewRanch for the info and link!

I'm still curious why JD doesn't offer this kit on this particular model when they offer it on other models in the same line up?
MtnViewRanch, I'll be emailing you shortly! :)

No, not missing anything. 1 tilt cylinder of the right length with the right ends replaces a side link & another replaces the top link. A restrictor to slow them down helps for fine adjustment is nice but not required.

MtnViewRanch makes good stuff, but it takes a while. Hoping my TnT set for my new machine finally ships here soon.

Brian at Fit Rite; He did my Kioti DK-40 T-N-T and has stood by whenever I had a question. I also got a diverter valve from him, so I can use my joystick FEL lever with trigger switch to control FEL snowplow, grapple, sickle bar and possibly a space shuttle launch pad in future!
He makes fitments for most brands....

I'm relatively certain that currently the only top & tilt sets that JD offers is for the 3000R & 4000R series. They offer top links for some of their larger tractors, but not top & tilt sets.

What 5000 series tractor do they offer top & tilt sets for?

Just curious. :confused3:

Thanks again for the replies!
Unsurprisingly, I'm wrong (was relying on what the dealership told me) and MntViewRanch is correct. According to the JD "Build your own" site there is a hydraulic top link option for the 5R series but it's between $1500-1800 for a cylinder and hoses from what I can tell, and no option for a hydraulic tilt. FitRite appears to be a much better value :)
