I ordered a JD 5085M last month and hopefully it will be here by the end of April. Couple questions for you 5085M owners.

What do you like most about the tractor and what are your biggest dislikes?

Did you load the front tires? I read in the owner's manual you can shift from B to C and from C to D range. Is this a smooth change?

What size attachments do you think this tractor can handle? Pull size harrow width, 14ft? 4 row planter? 3 or 4 bottom plow? Width or number of shanks for a chisel plow?

I got the 32/16 transmission with the deluxe cab and just about every option I could get. I did not get the loader since I will be using it to farm about 50 acres or row crops.

I loved my 5085M, it was perfect for what I needed it for, scooping snow (also have a Frontier SB1388 3-pt. snow blower). I sell seed corn and my warehouse sits on 3 acres. After I built the warehouse in 2010, I borrowed a old JD 3-bottom plow and plowed an area for an alfalfa plot by the warehouse. I then borrowed a 7-shank spring tooth chisel and tore up the brome grass, ran a 12' disk over it, then a 14' Kewanee culti-packer and seeded turf grass, packed it again and ran a roller over it. After 2 years, I borrowed a asphalt roller and after a 1/4" of rain ran the asphalt roller over it and after fertilizer every year, have a beautiful looking 3 acres of lawn. All done with the 5085M. The chisel plow would stop the tractor in its tracks if put in too deep in compacted areas but if feathered in and ran across it several times, it went thought like butter.

I had a loader and high volume bucket so I had someone make a 3-point bracket and would put a rack of 18 tractor weights on the rear to keep the *** end planted on the ground. A bucket of dirt would be fine but if I moved any rock, I needed the added weight.

Mine had then16/16 transmission and once you found the proper gear, the power reverser worked great. I also pulled a 6-row planter and it worked great, probably could have done 8-rows without any issues.

Great tractor! I just rented more ground and need more tractor so I traded for a JD 6170R.

I own a 5083e and I operate a 5075m a lot at work. Yes you can change the ranges while you are moving and it's a fairly smooth shift. My 5083 will handle a 4 bottom plow well and a 12 foot 3pt hitch 12 foot disc. I wish I would have got the m series just because the transmission is so smooth
