Purchased a lease return 5055E from local JD dealership last week its 1 year old right at 200 hrs extended warranty fully serviced... price was a little below a new machine with out additional warranty -- used comes with 2 year full warranty and 5 year power train so I gave up new for extended warranty and a little savings. On delivery tractor was parked straight off the trailer sat overnight and would not crank the next day was 45 out not really that cold engine rolled over about 3 slow turns then nothing-- other JD's crank with out issue much colder and turn over FAST. Machine sat for a and I figured I would try one more time before I called the dealer - tried it again and it did crank but the 5055 is very slow to turn over - sales rep said the 3 cylinder engines do not turn over fast - this is normal. Bad weather for a week finally get a chance to use the machine and throttle response is delayed both with the hand throttle as well as foot - push either one to max and it is about a 3 to 4 second delay for the engine to catch up to the position. As if this was not frustrating enough engine seems to lack power -from a dead stop high range first gear will kill the engine slowly - don't think this should even be an issue but all other machines choose too high of a gear let out on the clutch and an instant lurch/engine cut out. In order to test the tractor out was going to hook it to an implement lowered the 3pt hitch a little too low went to bump it up - arms will only go down will not come back up.

Get in touch with sales rep and he comes out to the farm in short order and brings a tech out to fix the 3 pt lift issue - they look they adjust doesn't work for them either tractor was picked up this AM to fix throttle/three pt. I am concerned now that there are issues with the machine -

Slow crank = battery issues
lack of throttle response = fuel system problems (filter/pump/injectors)
3pt = internal issues -- no issues with power steering and yes there is the correct level of fluid

Should this one stay at the dealer? too many issues considering this was only used to pull carts around a nursery. Thanks in advance for your input.

"there's your sign"
I would at least express your concern and require a good month "demo" for obvious reasons. I count 3 "strikes" if you count the cranking, but that might just be the battery.

I would unsign that contract so fast it would make their heads spin. No way they should deliver a tractor not checked out better than that.

BTW - welcome to TBM & the forum. I would not accept that tractor and I might consider looking for a different dealership. There is no excuse for the tractor not being thoroughly checked and fixed by the dealership before they offered it for sale. Is this going to be the way they are servicing new tractors also???

I would be more concerned about the dealer than the tractor. The tractor can be fixed, but the dealer never should have delivered a machine without checking it over. Can understand a minor issue or two, but not starting, rockshaft not working and engine sluggish are all things that should be caught on any pre-delivery inspection.

Contact John Deere directly and tell your story and watch what happens. Your dealer will be contacted immediately by John Deere and want to know the what's and why's. It will also begin a process with them (start a ticket) so that if you aren't satisfied you can more or less lemon law the tractor. They hold alot more power over your dealer than you do and when they get that call from John Deere they will be put on the spot and want answers from your dealer as to a fix/timeframe and resolution. That is what I did and ended up with a brand new tractor when it was said and done. There is no excuse in your dealer delivering that tractor to you in that condition.
