John Deere 425 AWS
Hi everyone,

I have a 425 John Deere AWS (Kawasaki Engine FD620D-1993, I believe), and when I turn the key to start the tractor, the starter rolls the engine over real slow (not fast enough to start it). Then when I turn the key back off- the starter is still doing the same thing- (rolling the engine over very slowly) even though the key has been turned back off. To stop it from doing that I have to unhook the battery. I have replaced the battery, and during the summer had put in a new timing relay switch in it because it would randomly stall out on me. The relay switch fixed the stalling problem, but did not help the problem I have with trying to start it in the winter months. Anybody have any ideas as to what the problem might be? It only does it in the very cold weather. During the summer- it starts and runs fine.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Rick

I believe the 425s have starter solenoids mounted right to the starter and their is probably moisture in it and the cold weather is probably making the solenoid stick.

Thanks for the info. I will take it off and get it dried out good to see if that does the trick. I appreciate the input.
