John deere 425 54 inch mower deck belt

Hi everyone been a while since I was here. Got a problem I can't keep my mower belt from coming off when I mow. I put a new one on this winter and mowed 1 time and it jammed up and made it useless. So I put the old one back on and mowed a couple of times and it has now come off. Everything seems to be ok as far as loose pulleys or bearings and such. I can't seem to figure out what is going on and thought you guys may be able to help me? My mower deck is a 54 inch part # MO54HDA084235 John Deere. This deck is very hard for me to take out every time to work on it. I know it's old but so am I...LOL. Ok thks and I will wait. Oh and if anyone has the correct belt number to dbl check I did get the right belt please feel free to give it to me please?

The belt is part # M112269..
Is that what you have?

I'd suspect a bad bearing in spindle or bad idler pulley bearing..

I have two tractors with that deck, and are designed to roll out easily when you turn the deck wheels 90 deg. If the PTO is difficult to reach from the side and it is not AWS, then reaching under the tranny from the rear is the easiest to do the PTO.

Well the new belt was a M112269 and it didn't last long...so I put the old one on and it came off very quickly too. I will check them out but they seem very good to me!!!! Thanks! Weeder

The belt is the deck belt, connecting the three blades with the gear box on the deck (driven by the PTO shaft).

Yes it is and yes I have a drive shaft connection I can't find anything loose or a bad bearing or wobbly etc.

Well weeder,

Something has changed. A few things come to mind.
- you routed the new belt on wrong
- one of the belt keepers on one of the pulleys is broken off or is worn out
- the tension spring is weak and doesn't keep the belt tight

This belt runs on a flat plain and there should be no issues keeping it in place.

Check your pulley bearings again and also the moving arm that tensions the belt.

Ok, but everything seems tight, the only thing I had to do was install new bolts on the pto drive shaft on the deck since the old ones were so rusty I couldn't get them loose. I plan on getting it out from under the tractor this weekend and hopefully figure out what is going on. The belt was routed per the instructions off the web. If you have a pic of the correct way please send it but I am sure it is right. The belt keepers look fine. but I will check them out again.

I'm guessing that the photo in post #5 shows the belt routing correctly.
