john deere 4110

my 2005 john deere tractor started to discarge all of a sudden and i can't get a john deere dealer to test the alternator with out bringing the whole tractor. can anyone direct me ? thanks

Most auto parts stores will spin an alternator for you

Take the alternator to a starter/alt repair shop and forget the dealer.

your tractor either came with regulator alternator built by denso or a permanent magnet alternator you need to post numbers or pictures for us to identify if it is the permanent magnet almost impossible to find some one to test correctly also this type either has rectifier/regulator combo mounted on back of it or elsewhere on tractor let us know which one you have

just a 2 prong plug and it is definetly a magnet alt with no other components attatched

i suspect that the rectifier/regulator has quit working you can probably find it under the dash away from the weather it should have 5 to 7 prong plugs would be great to find it when you do call a fellow named dan smith phone number 617-680-1557 he is in the boston area he should have this part in stock and can send it to you let him know you and i spoke on the net he can also tell you how to check the alternator also this unit is only designed to put out enough power to keep battery charged and lights working good luck

thank you all for your input.I found that my battery was shorted out,replaced it and all is well. sorry for crying wolf before I tested all the basics. thank you all again
