John Deere 3720
Hi,

Hope someone can help solve my tractor starting issue.

I recently purchased a 2013 JD3720 compact tractor with 2000hrs on it. It’s run a couple of hours mowing without missing a beat. Then I drove it into the garage and it stopped just before I shut it down myself. The dash was still lit but the rev counter was stuck on 1000 rpm The reading before it stopped. When I turned the ignition it wouldn’t start no noise from the starter motor just the fuel pump and lights working. I checked all the fuses worked the PTO switch and transmission selector and it started and run for a further few hrs without issue. Yesterday did 30 mins mowing and left it outside the garage for 30mins. Went to try and start it and the dash wasn’t lit and no noise from the starter motor just the fuel pump and lights working.

so far Ive tested the battery 12.6v bit low admittedly and tested the seat switch. will test other switches PTO and transmission but other than the fuses again not sure what to do next.

any help appreciated

Johnny

Something very similar happened last fall to a friend I sold my 3720 to back in 2016. The 3720 is ten years old with about 850 hours. She had been mowing her pasture and everything had been working just fine. When she went to use it the next day it wouldn't start but she has some power to the dash but the nothing to the lights. We tried to charge the battery and jumper cables but nothing would work.

The Deere dealer picked it up and discovered it was the battery cable to the starter. There were only a few of the copper strands unbroken. It ended up costing her about $500 for the cable, labor and hauling but it works now.

12.6 is not low. thats practically full charge. learn how to do a voltage drop test and start at the battery

check all the cables clean them and clean the battery terminals and
cable connections. Use a heavy copper cable and make sure in
neutral go from plus on battery to starter it should crank. using a vom
meter red probe to plus on battery and black probe to ground should
have 12.6 volts if that is what you get when checking battery. Did you
try to jump the solenoid?
