John Deere 3720
I’m new to the group, looking for help. I have a 2008 John Deere 3720, 1300 hours, that shuts down randomly. Acts like you turn the key off. I’ve drained the fuel tank, replaced both fuel lines going up, supply line and the line off the top of the filter housing back to the tank. Also replaced the fuel stop solenoid, new fuel cap. I also swapped out the fuel relay with another relay in the fuse block, didn’t help. Prior to working on it today it shut down several times, about every 30 seconds. After working on it today, replacing the fuel stop solenoid and fuel lines, I used it for 1.5 hours, ran great. Then it started stalling again. I’m assuming it is fuel related, but could be wrong. I have not replaced the fuel pump. Any suggestions?

Does fuel flow freely from the tank? Open a line and see. You could have a blockage at the output of the tank.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

You've mentioned doing everything except putting an inspection camera down into the fuel tank. You could have debris or a biological growth (it'll look like phlegm mixed with fairy-floss [or cotton-candy]) in there.

Please report back to us. Enjoy the site... from wherever in the world you are.

I drained the tank today, no foreign material in the tank. I did discover a filter on the back side of the fitting on the outlet of the tank. Screen filter about the size of a pencil. It was dirty but I’m not sure if it was causing the problem. I’ll refill the tank tomorrow and try again.
Anyone with input if my problem could be electrical? I’m thinking of putting power to the fuel shut off solenoid direct and try running the tractor. Maybe a bad relay or something else electrical.

Your 3720 wouldn't be that different from my 4105... on my 4105 all of the relays are the same so you can swap them around to see if the fault 'transfers' to another system/circuit.

You haven't said if you've had a physical/camera look down into the fuel tank. If you don't have access to an inspection camera you could attach a CHUX (J-cloth) to a 'mechanical grabber' (an auto/hardware shop will have them) and wipe the bottom of the tank... anything brown & slimy means you've got a biological growth.

I would check the lift pump and make sure it is running properly and supplying enough fuel. The only other thing I can think of is intermittent power due to chewed or degrading wire.

In my opinion you said the tank peacock valve screen looked dirty, I suspect that a portion of your issues lay at this point. You said you did not have debris in the tank, but something has been in the tank for this screen to be dirty.
If it was water in the tank, which due to condensation is unfortunately fairly common. Your dirty screen may well be rust and your entire fuel system and possibly engine has algae growth in it. If the screen gas rust, it needs to be cleaned or replaced (some will remove it completely, but this removes a step in the fuel filtration and allow larger particles into your fuel lines often causes problems right at the drain valve/fitting).
If the system has algae growth, it needs to be treated. There are a number of brands of additives that are on the market for this treatment.

I have same tractor but not those problems yet. just wondering if you can tell when it dies, is there fuel in the filter?

When it dies, key left on the fuel pump is running and the sediment bowl is full of fuel.
