I have the opportunity to but two john Deere 336 balers for the price of one. Never been around one. Any affine of what to look for on them or how good they are would be appreciated
Had one many yrs ago & it was new when I bought it. Here are the problems I had with mine.
* Plunger big end bearing needed to be replaced a couple times a season. Custom bearing for JD but with a sleeve one could use an off the shelf bearing. Big money saver IF you have a bearing supply house close by. The sleeve was custom made for the bearing ID.
* Had knotter frame break the first season. Replacement was a somewhat universal part and you might have to modify (either drill or increase the size of a couple holes in the replacement frame) to get it to work.
* At least on the earlier models the instructions for timing the needles was incorrect and adj to the manual would guaranty broken needles in no time. I lost 4-5 before finding out this piece of info.
* The tongue jack on the early models was a real widow maker. Within a couple yrs it was replaced with a different model. The bad jack functioned a lot like a bumper jack and if not real careful the handle could come flying towards you. Just missed my head one time.
