John Deere 318- What's it worth?

Hi all,

I just found this site, looks like a lot of good information, so I thought I'd ask for some advice.

I need to sell my Dad's John Deere 318 and have no idea how to price it. He recently passed away, and I have no idea what year it is and really any other information. I know he did buy it used and he took very good care of it, always keeping it in the garage. I had a friend inspect it and it seems to be good working order. I do know this:

46" deck
3-pt. hitch
includes snow blower and chains and rear wheel weights
hydraulic lift
power steering
new battery

I did find a note of my Dad's that said the first hour meter read 1100 hours, and I think he put a new meter on it that now reads 200.

Any advice on what I should advertise it for? Or any other website I could check that might tell me?

There is a good bit of collector interest in the 318 tractor. The 3 point hitch is a nice feature-they all did not have that. I would estimate the value at $2500 give or take- you will probably hear from some real JD experts soon.

THese are a really sharp and good tractor if well maintained. Substantial parts items like transmission, etc are getting hard to find. I have seen them go equipped similar for $1,500 to $2,800. For the avg user that is not a DEERE nut it is probably not worth that much but to the right guy definately on the higher end. mfg from 1983 - 1992 so year and hours will come into play as well. If you don't have to sell it right away start out high and put it on ebay or something similar.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, I just went through the same thing within the past year. I just sold my 1987 318 to my brother, it had the 46" deck, snowblower, 54" front blade, and roto-tiller. I always kept it indoors, maintained very well, it looked and ran like new with 1450 hrs on it.
There is a website called Weekend Freedom Machines that you can get a lot of answers there from a great gang, as well as finding out the year, etc. Once you get there, go to FORUMS, then RESTORATION & REPAIR, then HYDROSTATIC TRACTORS. Browse around, it is all about JD lawn and garden tractors.
