My charge pump has started to make noise. It's almost like a grinding at idle, and then is a whine at higher throttle ranges. It's not the differential, as I know they tend to make noise when operating. When I bought the tractor (6 months ago) it didn't make a sound. I decided to replace the engine with a NOS Onan. While the engine was out, I powerwashed the underside as it was extremely dirty because it was missing a belly screen for most of its life. Hence the engine replacement. Also, while installing the new motor, I had the driveshaft connected and it got wedged in the metal hydro lines briefly because I wasn't paying attention. Now, the engine runs great, but I have this whining charge pump. I've changed the trans fluid twice in an effort to stop the noise. I've primed the trans filter. I replaced the suction hose and compression spring and there are no leaks. My only guess is I bent a fitting, or dislodged some grime that was plugging a leak somewhere that air is now being sucked into the system. Here's a link to YouTube, where I uploaded a video of my pump making noise. John Deere 318 charge pump noise - YouTube
Here is a link that is the pump after it warms up a bit and while at idle. You can hear how the sound just sounds like air or something is being processed through the pump. February 12, 2018 - YouTube
The sound also doesn't go away when the tractor is moving, so I don't believe anything is sticking.
