The extra horsepower on the John Deere 3039R versus 3033R is appealing but will the turbocharger on it be a problem?

Too much plastic on a Deere plus you pay the green tax and they didn’t even make it. Get an l3901 and be happy for the next 30 years

Nice tractor but I prefer the foot controls on the JD and Bobcat.

Have a 45 HP Deere with turbo, Never a problem in 10 years to date. Some people (non-Deere) people whine about plastic, but again in 10 years for me, no problems. Looks like new. I work in a woods and make wood every year but with anything, I am careful. I would be careful with a tin tractor also/

I agree 100% on your Deere comments, but you're basically telling a guy to go from a terrible choice to an even worse choice. Lol. Orange tractors look like they were imported from a 3rd world nation, the controls are terrible, the features are non-existant, the pricing is insane on them, and they've got a poor reputation for emissions controls issues. If he buys a Kubota he'll be happy for the next 29.5 years because in six months he'll ditch that over-hyped POS.

At least give the guy a suggestion that's better than what he's looking at.

It’s a John Deere made tractor, the major component that is not is the engine, which is Yanmar made. They are made in Georgia. Plastic vs steel? Aluminum axle housing vs cast iron? These are debated all the time. No clear winner in my opinion.

I wouldn’t be afraid of a turbo. The question is do you need the power? For example if you want to be able to use the biggest brush hog possible.

Keep in mind a lot of what is on these threads is opinions. JD has the reputation as being the most expensive. When I was shopping two years ago I almost didn’t even go in to the nearby JD store. At that time JD seemed to be roughly the same price as Kubota.

When I bought (about 10 years ago) I looked at John Deere, Kubota and New Holland. They were roughly the same price and I chose John Deere. There was also a Mahindra dealer if I wanted to drive farther but they looked really crude. Now, no Mahindra, no New Holland, but there is an LS dealer if one wants a low priced option. For how long, who knows.

These are long term investments and price shouldn't be the primary decision factor. And note that the people who run down tractors with plastic parts generally don't own one. Those of us that do, don't have a concern about it.

Deere was the very first dealer I walked into 4 years ago when I started looking. You could say I was "predisposed" to them. My grandfather worked for Deere for 30 years (a LONG time ago). He's long since passed away, but it was "in the family".

When I walked in, they had not one. single. tractor. in the dealer lot that was remotely close to what I wanted. The salesman actually did get up and come over and speak to me (to Deere's credit, they were one of the very few that did). The tractor I was looking for was 200 miles away in another state. His "solution" was, I could either buy that one sight unseen from him right there and then, and they would have it brought up next week (it was in the same "chain" of dealerships), or I could drive down myself and look at it and buy it down there, and haul it home on my own. Or I could order one based on the shiny brochure he troubled himself to point out to me on the wall. Then he was done. He walked back over to his desk and sat down, and proceeded to completely ignore me at that point. He made no effort to have the tractor brought up FIRST, so I could look at it before I bought it.

I think the biggest reason I didn't opt for driving down to get it was my trailer was buried behind a 5' high snow bank that was probably 30-40' wide. One of the things I needed the tractor for (I was ready to buy that first weekend, I was NOT just out kicking tires) was to dig out my driveway, garage and parking areas.

It was also north of $55K by the time I was done with it (I think by a couple grand), because EVERYTHING was "extra". Well, except I think it did come with tires as standard (and maybe an engine).

I saved over $20K by NOT buying the green one. And it was in stock. AND my dealer waited on me like I mattered. AND he even delivered it after he filled the rear tires.

I was initially only going to look at a Deere. I saved a ton of money by the local dealer's shenanigans. If he'd have had the tractor I was looking for in stock, I seriously doubt I would have went anywhere else. I just would have bought it, not knowing how over priced it was (and every-frikken-thing on it is an OPTION for additional $?!).

They have since made major changes at the Deere dealer in town. The "small" stuff (SCUTs and CUTs) were moved to a different lot, and were no longer co-mingled with the big boy AG business side. They now usually have a pretty good stock of SCUT's and CUT's on their lot. Even now, with all the shortages they have several of each.

So I guess (?) they learned their lessons?

I don't *hate* Deere. I just hate paying *way* too much for a tractor.

I paid $27K for mine. Everything was standard that Deere wanted more money for. Front end loader, A/C in the cab (heat also, which I think (?) came standard on the cabbed JD?), radio, front and rear wipers WITH washers, front and rear work lights, 2 rear remotes, adjustable and extendable lower link arms on BOTH sides, cruise control, linked hydro pedals, split brakes, rear diff lock, rear view mirrors on both sides, and probably a couple things I'm forgetting.

As I said, the only reason I don't have a green one in my shed is they didn't have one. Now, I'm glad I kept that $20K in my wallet. That is an amount to take seriously.

And my hood is steel, but the plastic one on the Deere doesn't really bother me much.

I wouldn't be concerned about the turbo if your needs or altitude dictate a higher hp machine.
