I wasn't sure if this should go in the general "parts" forum or not, but since it is JD specific I figured I'd post it here.
I have an issue with the fuel hoses on my JD 2955. The hoses are rubber with a green cloth braid on the exterior. The hose leading from the fuel talk to the pump is soaked with fuel and I believe the fuel is either coming from the tank connection or just leaching through the rubber. Since the tractor is 26 years old I figured I'd just replace all the low pressure fuel hose. Here is the problem; the JD specifications for the hose make no sense at all. The specifications say the the outbound hose has an inside diameter of .295 in. and the return hose has an inside diameter of .217 in. These sizes just don't exist in the commercial world. Commercial/retail hose comes in standard sizes. If I buy 5/16 hose it is .3125 in. which is slightly bigger than .295 in. and if I can find 7/32 hose it is .21875 in. which is close but slightly bigger than .217 in. I could buy the hose from JD but I'd have to buy it in bulk, 32 ft and 16 ft. respectively, and it would run over $150.00. All I need is about 4 ft. of each type.
Has anyone replaced JD hoses with commercial hoses? Can a slightly larger hose be used and clamped on the low pressure side of the fuel system?
Any and all advice would be welcome.
