John Deere 285 Kawasaki FD590V

I have a carbureted Kawasaki on a John Deere 285. Need to do some work on it, but dealer says they need to know which engine is in it. The sticker is unreadable. It can be FD590V-AS00 or FD590V-AS01. How can I tell the difference? I was told to measure crankshaft.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the ...AS01 engine was fuel injected.

My carb version is FD590V-AS00

All that the dealer should need is the FD590V part ---- the sub designation shouldn't matter.

I did a bunch of looking on John Deere's website and Google. I think you are right AS00 is carb and AS01 is fuel injected. My year could come with either. Because of this the sub number is needed.

Take a look at the John Deere Parts catalog ----

I've never needed any sub number to get the correct part ---- engine serial number, maybe, if the part changes at a serial number break but not the engine suffix. Besides that if the only difference is fuel inj. vs carb, you already know it's a carb. Seems like they could figure it out if you just told them it has a carb.

Good luck in the hunt ------- p.s. I was always under the impression that the 4 digit suffix mostly was used to identify the brand/type of equipment in which the engine was installed.

Bruce you are right the last set of numbers are what engine went in.
I did not mean to be rude, if I sounded that way.
I am just happy to get it straightened out.
