My wife and I are talking about getting a JD cab for our 2720. We just wanted to hear different opinons on getting a cab on the tractor. There is not a lot of snow here but we always have something to do in the winter with the tractor.
Thanks for any help.

We do get a lot of snow here, so I've given that a bit of thouht too. I sat in one on a Kubota (aftermarked cab) during a recent open house, and thought that it felt pretty stuffy, and a bit confined in there on a warm day. I was surprised that there didn't seem to be an easy way to open the front window, and the sliders on the side windows didn't seem adequate for warmer weather. I would check out the off season comfort closely on anything you are considering. That is not always easy, and I was happy to see one installed, that I could actually sit in. (That was a new Curtis by the way, and I could have overlooked some obvious latch for more ventilation)

My company has dealt with Curtis Cabs for many years and I have to say they are one of the better "aftermarket" cabs out there. I have installed many of these cabs on everything from garden tractors to large compact utility tractors. If installed correctly these cabs will NOT leak water inside, and have do have a lot of ventilation options to control cab temperature. The front and rear windows along with door windows open. If you wanted to for the summer months the doors come off very easily, and you could take out back and even front windows for more air flow. On second thought if you had a couple of people to help the whole cab can be lifted off tractor after removing a couple of bolts. There are also many options available, if you want a heater for cab make sure its a coolant type heater.. These are more reliable and will not kill the alternator like an electric heater can. Anyways, I am not trying to sell Curtis to you but I do like their product.. Oh and dont buy a Femco cab... what a joke...

I think if I had to cultivate 50 acres I would consider a cab but I simply love the open tractor all summer and even though I don't like the winter I pack up with clothes and venture out. We get a lot of snow here but i don't mind the open cab.
I just rotary cut an 8 acre field and it was bliss just being out in the elements.

Thanks for clearifying those ventilation options. The tractor I was on was being set up for a customer, and I didn't want to play with anything. I was happy that they let me sit in it to get a feel for it.

Couple of pics of Curtis Cab on a JD2520. Both doors and back panel have since been removed for summer (5 minute job).

You could always go with an Original Tractor company soft-sided cab. It takes an hour or so to disassemble at each change of season, but offers a nice and inexpensive shield from winter.

Check out originalcab.com under products - it's called a "hard top cab."

Better and probably warmer (and cheaper) than a cab. You get to keep the openess of your tractor in the summer and still stay warm in the winter.. and I mean TOASTY warm.

Gerbing's Heated Clothing // The World's Warmest Clothing!

I ride my motorcycle year round, and bought the jacket and glove liners for the bike.. then last winter (the worst here in decades) I took an extra connector and put it on the tractor.

Rheostats for both gloves and jackets to control the heat, and they can be set to TOO hot. I've never had them more than 1/2 on.

Gear's intended for motorcycle but outside is outside.. and of course you won't be doing 85 on a tractor in 10 degree cold, so I'm sure if it can keep me warm you'll be ok blowing snow on an open tractor.
