John Deere 2320 and 46 Backhoe

Good day ,
hoping you all with your vast knowledge can help me with sourcing some items...
looking for a thumb for my 46 back hoe...
looking for cheap place online to ordwer parts for my tractor like filters etc....
wondering if i can get a larger bucket for my loader?

has anyone had good sucess with PTO connected post hole diggers adn wood chippers?

please advise...

Considering the relatively infrequent changes of fluids, I suggest you stick with the Deere filters. It's not like you're going to need these anymore frequently then 12 months...and you're only looking at (worst case) 30-40 bucks for the oil and fuel filters. Hydraulic filter/fluid changes might be every 2-4 years, depending on your annual usage of the tractor.

As far as the larger bucket...they're available. Just make sure your tractor can handle the greater weight (loaded) safely.

As far as wood chippers....there are a lot of TBNers who have them, including me. That said, if you have less then 20 PTO HP, you'll be limited in the size wood you can chip. I have an older Woods 5000 chipper/shredder. Woods' HP recommendations are 15 PTO HP minimum to 30 PTO HP maximum.

you say about PTO HP, my tractor is a 24 HP ...
does that mean the PTO is 24 HP also? or is it just engine?

I'm guessing your tractor has 24 Engine HP and less then 20 PTO HP. These specs should be in your operator's manual and I suggest you read that ASAP!
As far as larger buckets, there are aftermarket fabricators...do an internet search for "Compact Tractor Front End Loader Buckets" (leave the quotes off).

If you are looking for a mechanical thumb check out Bro-Tek. I don't know if he has one for the JD 46 or not. There are others as well. Just do a search.
Regarding buying JD parts at a discount I would suggest Greenfarmparts.com and greenpartstore.com. Greenfarmparts.com will have some good discounts starting tomorrow.

Don't be too quick to buy a bigger bucket. I have a 2320 with the 46 backhoe and have both the 12" and 9" buckets. This spring I had to plant 200 trees and thought the 12" would work best for 2' x 2' x 2' holes. After struggling with the 12" for about 40 holes I decided to switch to the 9" for better/quicker penetration. Found that was the right choice and it was a lot easier on me and the equipment.
