John Deere 2240
Hi,

I recently purchased a John Deere 2240 with the front end loader attachment. Yesterday the hydraulic fluid (gray with m aybe water in it?) started blowing out the right side of the motor just past the oil filler tube near the bottom of the engine. Any ideas?

Here is a pic from jdparts showing parts associated with the hyd. pump.. on front of engine. Don't know if it helps you directly.

You can go to this link and put in the model no. and browse to track down the part suspected of leaking and get the part #.

Update: It turned out that there is a 3/4 inch hose at both ends of the metal tube on the right side of the motor just behind the radiator. I replaced both hoses and all 4 clamps, added hyrdraulic fluid and all is well.
Thank all of you for your reponses they were very helpful.

If the hyd fluid is gray which indicates moisture in the hyd oil you need to drain oil to get rid of moisture. Moisture in oil will cause brake linings to deteriorate quickly causing metal to metal contact then fine metal gets into hyd valves causing problems.Common places for water in oil are cracked shifter boots & clogged hyd oil reservoir breather.
