Hey guys I'm new to this forum. I just finished putting a new PTO clutch pack in today. This is an independent PTO system. After putting the gear shift housing back on and starting the tractor I realized my lift arms and power steering aren't working correctly. The independent PTO seems to work fine know with the lever. The brake works well on the PTO also. I pulled the housing back off, then I ran a bypass hose between the feed line and return lines that enter the housing. I started the tractor again and the lift arms worked perfectly. Checked that there where no obvious high pressure leaks from the transmission pump lines. I put new orings in the housing and reassembled. Same issue, the lift arms wont move. Everything worked before I split the tractor to install the clutches. Not sure where to go from here. Thanks for any advise on this issue. Filters were all changed and sump was cleaned thoroughly when I split the machine. All new fluids as well.

Welcome to TBN
It seems odd that 3 pt & PS will operate correctly with a jumper hose on supply tubes with shift cover removed but won't operate correctly with shift cover in place & pto clutch/brake operates correctly. Have you checked any hyd pressures? Have you tried placing a load on pto clutch?

To TBN Hash. You came to the right place to get answers.

Putting your location in your profile can helps help you in the future.

It sounds like you are blocking the exit flow within the PTO.

No I haven't checked any pressures. The PTO had no problem starting the 6ft brush hog. But the tractor couldn't lift it. The arms would move every so slowly until they had a load on them then they just stopped. With the bypass tube in place the arms moved at a steady pace all the way through the full motion with no chatter.

Where could there be a blockage in the PTO exit flow? In the valve body inside the gear shift housing?

Like i said everything worked except the PTO clutches were completely worn out. I split the tractor and just removed the snap ring that holds the clutches in place. Replaced everything and reassembled. Pretty quick and easy process except this issue.
