I am new to tractors and this site but I need help.
My tech manual is on its way but while I am waiting:
1. Do I drive the sleeve onto the steering axle dry or use lube of any sort?
2. Do I drive the seal into the housing dry or apply a lube?
3. Lastly do I drive the seal into the housing using the old bushing that I messed up on its top or other ideas?

PS...thanks for your patience....not a mechanic and new to tractors...I could pay JD to do it for me, but just want to learn.

I need more information? I have no idea what seal you are replacing. Can you post pics?

Welcome to TBN.

Tractor is JD 2210 with 1150 hrs. Attached is a parts drawing from JD of which I am replace #18 Sleeve, 19 bushing, and 20 which is the seal. I am hoping the attached parts diagram and tractor pics can be seen. If not I will try something else.

It won't hurt to lube everything.

Be careful installing the new seal. Very easy to distort. Gentle taps are preferred. Might appear to be too big. Should fit tightly to prevent leaks.

Good job on tackling this project.

Cleaned everything up and attempted to remove the sleeve. It would not budge, even with heating the sleeve. So before damaging anything, it was time to remove the gear box and tomorrow it goes to John Deere. I watched a video of someone removing the sleeve off a Kubota and it came off so easy.....mine did not. They can install the new sleeve because I's sure that will be tough as well. Thanks for your response.

Just as a follow up, JD had to cut a V up from the bottom of the sleeve in order to get it off from the shaft. I had them install the new sleeve since they were working on it anyways. Put the tractor back together today and everything is running good. Leak is gone.
