My JD 2155 is overheating after running for 20 -30 minutes. I have had the radiator cleaned and rodded, replaced the thermostat, replaced the water pump, replaced the water reservoir filler cap, and replaced the temperature sending unit. I am planning to purchase a mechanical temperature gage to see how high the temperature is actually getting. Anyone know at what temperature overheating starts, i.e., 220 F or higher? Anyone have an idea what might be causing my problem?

Blown head gasket possibly. Are you loosing fluid without any visble leaks?

My tractor was overheating last summer so I too replaced the water pump ,hoses ,belt, had the rad. vatted and cored and it still overheated so I took the head off and had it inspected for cracks lucky there was none but they did find one of the intake valves bent said it was caused by either water or too much fuel .So I had all3 injectors rebuilt and put it back together with a new head gasket and have mowed this summer in 100 degree heat and and the temp. guage never goes to the half mark. russ

While the tractor is at an idle and cold remove the radiator cap and fill into the neck and look for air bubbles coming to the surface. Thats a poor mans way to see if you have a head gasket leak or possibly a crack.

Are you blowing the coolent out? If so then you may not be over heating, rather you have combustion gas in the coolent, from a head gasket or if you have injector nozels they can leak too. To test, drill two 1/8 holes in the thermastat, to let the gasses pass. If this works, then you can run like this for quite some time, but plan to remove the head and fix the problem.

is the gauge flickering irradically? if so below your left foot under the foot plate is a wiring harness that sometime gets a loose wire in the group of wires connected together that's where I found my problem. I replaced everything until I located the loose wire.

Ditto or install rad pressure check gauge on rad neck. Has inj pump timing ever been checked?
