Hello Everyone,

I've been noticing that its becoming harder and harder for me to take off in High range / 8th gear under no load but its own weight even. Seems as though I really need to fan the clutch to get it rolling or I will stall it, but enough that it seems I'm burning the clutch to get rolling which isn't good. Same issue for 7th gear as well. Just doesn't seem to have enough power to take off in high range these days. Otherwise it runs fine in the low gears.

Any ideas what could be going wrong? Oil levels are good. Fluids all recently changed. Coolant, hydraulics all new fluid. Lift pump I replaced in the fall to try and correct this issue, but still had no improvement. Fuel pressure pump was done a few years back. Engine is running at normal operating temperature, 170-180F. New clutch, clutch plate, thrust washer etc was done in the fall as well.

Tractor probably has 5000hrs on it? I have to guess because the dial reads 2600, but the guy I bought it off of a few years ago said it never worked so who knows really. I have since spent the 60 bucks to get a replacement and I've only put on it 80 hrs or so in the last 2 years.

Any help / guidance would be appreciated.

Have you checked the fuel pressure or just proactively replaced the fuel filters?

Where is the test port located to do the test? What gauge, fittings would I need?

I replaced the filters in the spring of last year and its only done maybe 40 hours since then at max. There isn't any sediment in the bowls that I can see.

Problem seems to be getting slightly worse as well. Starting off in 7th seems to be a struggle as well. Engine runs and sounds fine, just that once you add a load on it she stalls out way to easy. I should be able to use the gears it came with starting off with not even any implement on the back?

Why on earth would you try to start off in high gear?
Start away in 5th gear and shift up.

Why are you starting out in "Road gear"??? start in a lower gear! depending on load and progressively shift up as to what speed is required, Once you have momentum , shift up. you can progressively shift on the way up, no reason to run to Max rpm in every gear, but don't allow it to lug down too much either, keep practicing your shifting, but continuing to do it the way you are and you will have some problems down the line, You have a 70 Hp tractor, even so, starting out with any tractor in High High is hard on them. Try first gear in high range ( fifth?)

Cheers

How would I shift up properly though? The tractor doesn't have a syncro tranny. I have tried to "double clutch", going along in a gear, clutch down, put the gear selector in neutral, release clutch, clutch back down, and into the next gear up but either I'm doing it wrong or not meant to be. The tractor has slowed down more than ideal by that point and going into the higher gear I feel it grind. Did that stunt twice awhile ago and don't want to do that again.

What am I doing wrong then?

Double clutching won't work up shifting but is required when down shifting.
Just start off if 5th. At about 1500rpm lift your foot off the throttle, shove the clutch and select a higher gear.

Thanks, will try that out this weekend!
