John Deere 2030
I have a 1974 John Deere 2030 and have a question about removing and replacing the steel hydraulic lines that run from the transmission up to the pump and oil cooler. One of these steel lines developed a pin hole. Apparently the previous owner removed the spacer that keeps the 3 lines separated and all the vibration eventually rubbed a pin hole in one of my lines. I have the line loose from the pump but can't figure out how to get the steel line loose from the housing under the right platform. There are two lines that go into the housing side by side as shown on the attached picture. These two lines have a "collar" around them that's held secure against the housing by a steel plate that bolts into the housing. I removed the bolt and steel plate but can't figure out how these lines break loose from the housing. Any help/guidance is most appreciated.

They are just stuck. They will come out with a little persuasion.

If this is your first experience with those lines, I suggest you mark one of them before you remove them. Once they're both out and removed from the tractor, you will be lost going back as to which one goes where. They will each fit in either hole, but only one way works.

When you say persuasion, do you mean driving something like a prybar or flat head screwdriver between the collar and the housing? I'm going to replace both lines once I get them removed so I did label them as you recommend so I'll know which goes where.

No, I wouldn't do that. I would use the prybar and a small block of wood. Get behind the pipe near the bend and pull the line towards the front of the tractor.

Replacing the lines is a judgement call. I would probably consider brazing up the worn spot unless there are just too many of them or the damage is too severe. I've brazed most all of the one's I've dealt with, only replacing one or two. The last new one I got for a 2040 came from Deere, and was only half the weight of the old one. Apparently much thinner material, and will no doubt wear through faster.

The critical part is getting all three lines back in place and secured properly so none of them touch each other or any metal surfaces around them. You'll see. It
s a fun project. If you don't get it right, you'll do better next time.

You have to label them. Put duct tape on one and remember you marked inside line or outside. On rear end the lines are held in by the plate you removed. It's just a pipe stub with an o ring that pulls straight forward toward front axle. Just replaced a set. Same problem. Lines rubbed.

why not just cut the pin hole out and put in a
splice?

One of the tubes could have trans pump pressure of 155-165 psi & other tube could have main hyd pump pressure of 2250 psi

Thanks for that info. Where do you end up getting the new lines/hoses from?
