Hello all,

It's a standard unit. gas, no high/low, no reverser, standard PTO. After 3-5 minutes of operation all hydraulics (3 pt., steering, loader) will chatter and move slowly if at all. I can turn off the tractor for less than 1 minute, restart and hydraulic function will return for another 3-5 minutes. This would seem to indicate that the transmission pump is working for a short period.

I researched the web and have checked (cleaned or replaced) the pickup screen, filter, the pressure relief valve and check valve. There was another post with the same issue but it doesn't list the final corrective action. Here's the link to that post. 2030 Hydraulic Problems -- Antique Tractor -- John Deere -- Page 1

I'm using aftermarket hydraulic fluid. Does that have any impact?

The final option is to split and replace the internal pump. But why does it work for a short period and then fail??

Best regards,
Jeff

Welcome to TBN.
How is loader controlled(scv or ind valve)? Look in hyd filler hole with engine running for spraying oil with 3 pt raised. Check hyd functions with a laser thermometer for abnormal heat.

Please coach me on what a scv or ind valve is. I'm new to hydraulics. I'll check for the spraying oil. I don't think temp is an issue since this problem starts before the tractor is even warmed up. I'm working at a remote location so it will be this evening before I can provide the answers. Thanks.

1st photo is scv valve housing. 2nd photo is loader ind control valve.

I don't recognize either of those assemblies but it is certainly not the second one.

Even though I had serviced the hydraulics in May with very few run hours between I pulled the pick up screen just to double check. It was covered with some type of gelatinous substance. I cleaned the screen and replaced the filter (even though it looked good). The system now seems to work but what was that strange substance?? Not knowing the root cause only means that the failure will return.

Thanks for your continued support.

Thanks for update & I'm glad you got it operating correctly. Substance covering sump screen could possibly be moisture mixed with the oil.
