John Deere 2020
Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to tractor hydraulics. I have been restoring a 1971 2020 for the last year. All back together now but I beleive that I have mixed the hydraulic pipes up where they enter the rear casing. One metal pipe comes from the hydraulic pump at the front of the engine, the other from the oil cooler. I had the oil cooler pipe going to the inside port and the pump pipe going to outside port at the rear. Swapped them over but now my 3 point hitch will not move,(stuck in the up position). Also a squealing coming from the system when I rev the engine. All worked before I stripped the tractor for refurb. What should I be trying/testing? What is the correct location for the pipes? What damage may I have caused ? Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,Alan.

IIRC the line with check ball is the upper line when clamps are in place. On the 3 pt hitch not lowering have you tried opening up rate of drop screw(parts key #8/2nd photo) under the seat?

I think you had the lines right the first time. Inner line is return from oil cooler (no check valve). Outer line is suction line to front pump (with check valve, unless HI-LO trans or Reverser trans).

Swap the lines back and see if 3pt works.

Thanks for the replies and advice.
Tx Jim, Haven't tried any adjustments till I'm sure pipes are correct way round. Thanks for the pictures, are you saying that the line with check ball is the outer where they enter the casing at the rear ?

Thanks for the pics. Are you saying that the line with the check ball is going to the outer port on gearbox casing where clamp is ? Or if sitting on tractor seat, it is the right port, facing forward ? Just want to be 100% clear.
Thanks for help, hydraulics are new to me, don't understand them yet.

Outer most or right line will have check valve (if you have one) and goes to the pump inlet.

Ditto what Zebrafive stated. Pipes in question will have no effect one way or the other on rockshaft going down.

Thanks for the advice, changed pipes around and adjusted speed rate screw under seat. 3 point hitch working up and down now.
