Tractor ran fine yesterday, now, won't start. has gas, seems like the starter spins but not cranking the engine over but the screen thing spins so i think thats the flywheel spinning? any ideas on what to check first?

:welcome: to the forum.

Trying to sort out what is happening.
Any chance you can take a pic of what is spinning, and post it? Go Advance button under the post window and browse for that pic once it is on your computer filed somewhere.

"seems like" doesn't help much. Of the engine is turning over with the starter, then you should here it exhausting air.
Might try taking a plug out, and letting it rest on the motor such that you can crank the engine and look for a spark at the tip. A good spark will lead us to the next challenge and that is to get fuel into the cylinder.
Let us know how the spark test goes (and keep in mind, the spark plug needs to rest on something that is grounded).
Also, cranking doesn't mean the engine is running. It just means the starter is turning the engine over (and that may be happening if the screen thing spins).

Feed back some more info, so we can attempt to get you going again.

ok ordered operators manual. tractor new to me. anyhow. new plug new oil, new air filter. just checked. has spark. has fuel when cranking going into carburator. don't know if getting into cylinder though. the carburator has a electrical wire going to into it, don't know what that is. the fuel line comes from tank, through a see through filter i think then into a square part that is attached to the engine. i am thinking thats the fuel pump? then the fuel line runs down to the carburator with an electricall wire b4 cyclinder. I took the fuel off b4 going into the carbrator and it spurts fuel when cranking. don't know if that is enough fuel. also starter just clicks intermittently when i hold the peddle down (really have to find the sweet spot there on the peddle to get it to crank) and try to crank. starter going bad?

Electrical thing is the fuel solenoid. It shuts off the flow of fuel to the intake not to the carb. Turn the key to on, not start, and feel if the solenoid clicks. If it doesn't, verify that 12 volts is going to the solenoid. If no, then trace the wire to where it goes from the solenoid. If yes, remove solenoid and check operation. If it has a rubber tip on the needle, make sure it isn't loose. It should be epoxied on.

If that wire breaks, the tractor will not start I just had that happen to mine. Also are all of your safe switches ok? the seat, pto, and break have them.
