John Deere 165 Deck height wont stay locked..

Co worker wanted me to look at his John Deere 165 Hydro. The deck height with not stay locked in place. He said he way mowing and the deck just dropped to the lowest setting and wont stay locked, You can raise the deck with the big lever. but the little lever will not hold. I took some pics, I took the height adjustment cover off for the picture. What am I missing here? Any diagrams online, or anyone have a picture of there tractor?

Got the deck off. At the end of the height adjustment rod, there is a step gear type thing as pictured connected to the rod. There is nothing close that this would lock on to, you can pull the rod up and down but it doesnt come close to connecting to anything. Still cannot find a diagram or another picture of a similar unit to see whats missing.

Ok, the gear is what holds the deck at a certain height. The only way i can make it work is by holding the adjustment rod steady. So I guess the problem is the adjustment rod has no tension on it. gotta figure out where the spring goes, Im assuming it popped off and just got caught on the frame???

Got it all taken care of, the spring is supposed to connect to the fender then to the plastic height selector cover to keep that rod stable. the cover on it was broke. New cover and spring in right place. All is well now.
