This is my first year using a 14t, so far it has done a good job on straw. The only problem with it is about every 10-20 bales it only ties a single twine knot instead of a double twine knot on the left side on the bale (looking from the rear of baler), the other side ties perfect every time. The single knot pulls apart when it goes through the bale case, I'm using regular twine, not plastic, and I adjusted the fingers and every thing else that was in the manual like it said, including twine tension(used fish scale), anyone got any ideas on something I missed? I got to bale hay this week and I was hoping to figure this out. thanks

Welcome Chopper ! Single knot is usually caused by tucker finger failing to place twine in the twine disk slot. If you are sure that's not the knot problem, then the twine disk isn't holding the end while the bale is being formed. Check to see if the missed end is square cut and flattened a bit. This twine is also shorter than the twine loop in the opposite side (the one that's got a good knot). Fix this by increasing tension in the twine disk holder spring. If the end of the twine is frayed or torn off looking, there's too much tension in the twine disk. (It's being yanked out), Solution is to decrease twine disk tension a bit. Also look for worn broken or just plane shot springs in the twine disk and billhook tongue adjusters. A hardware store has these parts (as does Home Depot or Lowes or Menards (or whatever you have for a hardware store). Stay in touch. We need to know what fixes this condition for you so future users will be less troubled. While you are at it, empty the machine and clean all the crud out of the bale case and check the plunger stops and springs.

thanks for the reply,I'm going to adjust the tucker finger a little more and try that . The twine disk spring(flat peice of metal) is adjusted all the way in which seemed to help alot in the beginning,I cleaned the bill hooks up after the first day of baling, which also helped, the knot looks good but is just a single, thus not strong enough to make it through the bale case. I'll keep my fingers crossed, hopefully this works,I'll post results later, again thanks for the reply.
p.s. this is a really great web site for info on farm machinery, keep up the good work.

I have a 336 jd and I have the same problem - was every 10 bales or so now I can get 20-30. The knot on the left side (rarely a problem with the right side) I get a loop on the bale - the twine does not catch in the disc so I loose two bales before it ties again. I have been fighting with this baler for 4 years. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
