John Deere 1217 hydraulic piston question.

Trying to figure out if the cylinder is bent. I doesn't want to extend. Wondering if this is a common issue.

You should be able to tell if the cylinder is bent by running a straight edge along the outside of the cylinder. If the rod is bent it would have to be quite bent in order to not extend. Are you sure you have full hydraulic pressure running to the cylinder?

Thanks Loggin, The cylinder has what looks like a weld bead around the cylinder but still original factory paint! The mower-conditioner is used and otherwise in good condition. The piston only freely travels about 6" . I don't want to force it out fearing it will cease. I guess I will remove it and bench test it.

JD 1217 Mo-Co lift cylinder has no actual piston similar to normal hyd cylinders. The rod acts as the piston & is retained in barrel by an internal snap-ring. My guess the reason rod will extend only 6'' is rod is bent or galled or tractor hyd pressure is lower than required pressure.. What is tractor hyd pressure that is attempting to extend rod?

Thanks Tx Jim, I will hook up a different tractor or other hydraulic source. This means I will remove the cylinder and bench test it. And yes, this is a unique cylinder! Thank You for your advice!! Dan.
