John Deere 112
I recently got my hand on a 71 John Deere 112 with all the attachments.

Went to go till my garden for the season. Ran it for about 15-20 min shut right of like I turned the key off. Took the plug wire off to see if there was spark after trying to get it started again. Waited for about 40 min after. Fired right up.

I've replace the coil, condenser, I bought but have not put it in yet new points. Could that be the problem? I've always been told that if the points are bad it wouldn't start at all.

Is that with the Tecumseh HH100 engine? I had one that did that and it turned out that the pushrod ( a small piece of phenolic or similar) had developed a "step" from wear and would occasionally hang up on on the bore instead of following the cam. It kept the points from closing. Replacement of that part fixed it up.

Yes it's the hh100. So is that part in the points?

Not actually in the points. It's a separate piece that activates the points by riding in a bore in the block casting. I'd have to check a parts diagram to be sure, but I think it rides a lobe on the cam. The end away from the points is inside the crankcase.
