Hi Guys,

I got my JD working today, bought it for Cheap, but it takes like 3 Cranks before it starts...

It is because of the Fuel Pump? Fuel Pump seems to be working since I can see the Gas sucking up.

Does it take a few Crank before the Gas enter the Carb? Is that possible? I dunno much about the Fuel Pump since I'm new to it all.

NOTE: Battery is Good, just cleaned out the Carb, nothing blocking the Air Filter or the Exhuast. Compression is good too :)

Thankx !!!

Hey, nice rig. I just sold a standard 111. They are good 30 year old machines.

Now, about your starting question, not likely your fuel pump. The pump is responsible for continued fuel flow but has little to do with the inital start up. Make sure all of your throttle and choke cables and linkages are in place and working smoothly. What happens if you give a short shot of carb cleaner in the carb throat? Does it start right up? That would point me back to carb or choke issues.

Good luck and please let us know what you find.

Hi, thankx for taking your time and answering my question.

1. I did just that, I sprayed some Carb spray in it and yes, it starts right away...

2. There is a Broken Spring on the Throttle (a Long thing that pull the Throttle back and fourth when you excelerate and it connects to the Governor?) which I hooked / Rigged it back up. I dunno if I did it right... Seem like Closing and Opening OK and the Governor seems to move Back and Fourth like it should.

3. You might be right on the Choke. When I put it to Choke so I can start, It won't at all... But when I took the Carb off, I think I put it back right cause you can see it Closed when I put the Lever to Choke.

How much did you you sell yours for may I ask???

I bought the JD 111H for $60.00.

Thanhx again!

Glad to hear you are on the right track.

Mine is a long story but the short version is that I bought it for $100, replaced lots of parts including an idler pully, seat, tires, everything on the deck but the stamping and castings for my daughter's new house.

When she moved back home it was surplus so I sold it on Craig's List for $300. I had 5 calls in the first hour so I guess I let it go too cheap but the family who bought it needed a good deal to mow their acre front yard.

That long spring that goes over the throttle rod is important. It keeps the slack out of the governer linkage and reduces 'hunting' without a load on the engine.

Good luck and please let us know how your project is coming. Pictures are always welcome.

Yah you sold it CHEAP, LOL...

Anyway, question about the Governor...

If the Governor go toward the Front of the Engine, is that when the Engine goes HIGH? That Spring is moving back and fourth.... When I put on Choke, the Governor goes toward the Front / Carb... Is this Normal?

Gonna take some Pix, brb :)

:D

As I remember from mine, your linkage is working correctly. I do remember that I needed to sleeve the throttle shaft on my with the correct ID brass hobby tubing. The steel shaft had worn an egg in the cast carb housing and it was hard to get the jets dialed in. If you have extra air getting past the choke blade that may be part of your issue.

I would also check for a good blue spark with a spark tester. You may need to adjust the magneto air gap or clean the rust off the pole pieces. Not hard to do, just take your time and shoot lots of pictures on your way in.

Please let us know what you find, Alan

Hi Alan,

First, thank you for your Knowlege and passing it on to me... I think you might be Right on the choke issues... I didn't have to Pull the Lever to Choke to Start. If I Choke it, it won't Start, but if I leave the Lever just Half way it Starts easier...

I have been working on another Project... Doing a Bathroom to save some money, LOL so I haven't go a chance to continue with me Tractor. I have read your reply but NEVER got to say Thank you! Sorry....

P.S. I will update once I get to it :)
