John Deere 110 TLB Replacement Starter

I'm looking for a backup starter for my 110 as it has been acting up lately. I suspect the solenoid is the problem but I don't want to spend time repairing it when I get to my work site 300 miles away.

A rebuilt starter from John Deere is over $500. I found other suppliers of rebuilt starters selling for between $400 and $500.

There is an aftermarket starter available for under $200. I was wondering if anyone has used one of these and if it performed well enough?

You could buy the aftermarket starter, and then very likely have your original rebuilt for a spare.
I doubt that rebuilding would cost more than $200.

I bought an aftermarket starter off e-bay for my 5055e last year for $108. It works better than the original.
You may want to check there for a starter.

I have read that JD had issues with the solenoid.

I suspect that my original starter will work if I replace the solenoid. There is a replacement solenoid also on e-bay which I intend on buying. It's priced at $33.

As fried 1765 said a spare would be nice, especially if it only cost me $33.

Call DB Electrical. They have had a starter or alternator for everything I've ever checked on at better than fair pricing and I have never had one not work.
