Water in fuel.
Repair before u loose the engine !

If u have a CAV pump on your 2240 they "normally" don't run away.. your description sounds more like air in the system..
They'll run up hi & then shut off.. Check all your connections & change the fuel filters.. if you find abunch of gunk in the filters, chances are good that it made it to the inj. pump..
But change the filter first & tighten down all the connections & see what that does..
