Jinma 284
Have option of 284LE or 224. Does anyone have an opinion if 284 is worth $1800 more than standard 224. 284 is LE with shuttle shift and factory Jinma loader. 224 is older style with Koyker 140. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It depends on what you are going to use the tractor for,how much tractor do you need, both will pull 5'-implements,the Koyker loaders is better than the chinese, the shuttle shift is nice for loader work, the LE package has some cosmetics, spring seat,(nice on the backside) 1-piece gauges, different hood and lights, fiberglass fenders vs steel
You need to decide how much tractor you need, most of the other stuff is cosmetics other than the shuttle shift and Koyker loader.I you tell me what size property, and what your intentions are for the tractor I could prob.help you a little more on size

Evaluating the 224 requires a bit more information. Some are two cylinders, some are three. Some come on the same chassis as the 254/284, some are smaller. Which version of the 224 are you looking at? Makes a difference in the final analysis.

If they're both the same size, the 284 will have a superior horsepower to weight ratio. This is just me, mind you. But assuming both tractors are owned by the same seller, I'd try to work a deal for the 284 with the Koyker loader off the 224.

Mantis166,
I think Tommy really hit the nail on the head on this one. It depends what you are going to do with the tractor.
I have a 224, regular trans (3 cyl, big chassis & wheels the same physical size as a 284, just a 284 with a 22hp engine) with a Koyker 160 FEL. Without doubt the Koyker is superior and I have used both so my comparision is reasonable. I have also ran a 284 and find almost no difference between power output between my 224 and the 284. I truly believe the only difference is at max output which very few will ever use. At least not I. Don't get me wrong, more power is always a plus but at 1800 makes me think as you are.

The main thing that leads me lean toward the 284 is the shuttle shift. I've used it and it is sweet for loader work.
But thinking about the extra 1800 and china loader makes me double think. Believe me these are strong machines and will surprize you in what they can do. I have a Kioti 1714 which is a nice smaller unit but is a TOY compared to my 224. Same class but different machines completely.
Answer what Tommy asked and that will be the best unit to go for.
Too bad F100panel is not online as he owns both a standard trans 224 and a 284 shuttle trans. He would be the man to ask.

Thanks for the advice. I have 9 acres and need to brush hog and move some dirt. It is level but get a lot of rain so 4x4 is crucial.

There are many varibles on every model of Jinma tractor. I have the 284LE but mine has individual guages and steel rear fenders. I have the 140 Koyker FEL and really like the unit. I can't comment at all on a 224, I've never been around one. Mine came with the spring seat and I only know that most that bought a tractor w/o the spring seat-tried to build or replace the seat.

Mantis166, 9-acres of level ground either tractor will work,I would go with the 224 for $ 1,800.00 less and use the $ 1,800.00 for implements which will get most of stuff you would ever use,I know where to get spring seats for the Jinmas, you can PM me for more information

Mantis, I'm they guy HarryG references with the 284LE & the 224. Doing loader work I notice NO diference in the tractor horsepower. I pull 5 foot rough cut mower & a 6 foot york rake. NO difference on the rake, 1 gear lower on the mower with the 224... The shuttle on the 284 is NICE but there are many tines the 224's creeper comes in handy. Albeit many here find no use for the creeper but I find it to be invaluable. If you have tilling in mind you'd definately need it. For my box blade & middle buster ( middle buster is quite a thing/instant drainage ditches.) the creeper is a must.. Horsepower not the issue, traction is. I'm in North Eastern NY & it's all rock & clay. Previously turned earth is no big deal but virgin earth is tough going. Trying for too much ground speed with the box blade or middle buster & I just get wheel spin.... Currently I have the loader on the 284 with shuttle. Was putting 10 foot bay windows in the house with forks on the loader. The 284 with shuttle was moving WAY to fast in close quarters/wished I had the loader on the creeper equipted tractor for that job... Hope some ( or any??? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ) of this helps.. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thank you for all of the practical info. Very helpful though some of it won't really make sense until I get a tractor and try different implements on different jobs. I am city raised and doing the 'green acres' thing and just trying not to get taken by a 'Mr. Haney' trying to unload his junk on an unsuspecting city slicker. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I was having a tough time trying to decide on the shuttle shift as well, in the end I went with the standard transmission I am so glad I did for Rota tilling the creeper is perfect !! I have used the creeper gears much more often than I ever thought I would. I would not even consider the shuttle shift now. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
