284 Jinma
Hi All, i just purchased my first tractor ( Jinma 284, Koykey 160 Fel )for a discount price that from a guy who didn't want to put a new starter in it. When i got the starter in i was surprised to find there was pretty much no problems other than the breaks didn't work which i was able to adjust and make work fine but the other problem is the Loader seems to be low on power. It wont pick up more than about 200 pounds but the bucket has the power to roll a full load of gravel but i couldn't pick it up. Any ideas on where to start? I know motors and transmissions but hydraulics aren't my specialty at all. Thanks for the help a head of time

Buying a pressure gauge and fittings to allow you to connect it into your hydraulic system will allow a quick diagnosis. If the bucket curl cylinders are being fed 2,500 psi and the loader lift cylinders are only getting 1,000 psi the problem lies in the loader control valve and not something much more expensive. The following link to Harbor Freight shows a 5000 psi gauge for about $10. some fittings to allow you to plug the gauge into a quick coupler and you are well on the way to determining what is wrong.

First thing is to plug in the gage and check the pressure. If it is not at specs, then adjust it.

Your lift cyl could be bypassing due to worn piston seals.

The lift spool could be leaking due to a worn spool.

where should i check first? the quick disconnect off of the pump or after the box that is inbetween the pump and the FEL control. I always get confused and which line does what. I am a newbie for sure

You can make the hyd tester to plug into a QD, or install the hyd gage in a tee in the IN port of the loader valve.

If you plug the gage into a QD, momentary open the valve lever just to see the pressure and then release the lever.

If you install the gage into the IN port of the FEL, you can monitor and troubleshoot the hyd system when ever. Everything you do hyd will be reflected on the hyd gage.

so i did the test inline and i have 2100 psi. So on one of the the hydraulic lift cylinder i took one end off and each way i moved the joy stick fluid came out, i took the other end off and it did the same thing. Does that mean anything? Thanks

If you removed the hose from the rod end port and fully extended the rod, and fluid continued to flow, then you have bad seals.

2100 psi means that the pump is pumping against something to develop pressure.

Did the relief activate?

You need to isolate each cyl and determine if one of both are leaking.

A couple of thoughts.
On my Kubota loader there are two positions for the inner end mounting point for the lift cylinders.
One position gives lots of height but not much capacity while the other is for heavy loads.
Is it possible your tractor has this feature?

I would try one simple test, Using the quick couplers connect the bucket lines to the lift arms and vice versa and see what happens to the lift ability.
Be careful as the loader movement wont be intuitive.
I think for your cylinder leakage test to mean anything you need to either do as one member suggested and put the loader bucket under something far too heavy for it to lift or extend the cylinders completely. If, during this test, fluid continues to come out the open cylinder port then there is a problem on the piston seal. However since the cylinder is double acting there will be oil in both ends of the cylinder and some will come out until the piston cannot move such as at the end of the cylinder's stroke or when it cannot move due to load.

I should have said something before about the QD on the pump hose. If you want keep the QD on the hose, then add a relief valve before the QD.

A QD is not a good idea because if for some reason it becomes disconnected, the hose will burst, the pump will blow up or a fitting will burst.
