I have a Jinma 224 tractor with only about 6 hours on it. I noticed hydrolic fluid leaking around the right rear lift arm. I just figured that it must have been a bad seal. I obtained a new seal, pulled the lift arm, bushing, and old seal out. Installed the new seal, reinstalled the bushing and attached the lift arm. Still leaking! Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be and a possible fix?

Thanks in advance!

Hi dh0765,

Where exactly is the leak? Pics would help. I don't know if this is what you are experiencing, but I also had a leak in that area and it was caused by a defective o-ring in the quick-connect of the rear remote.

Good luck with that leak!

It is leaking where the lift arm connects to the rear housing of the tractor. I don't have pictures.

I have a Nortrac 254 that is leaking in the same area as well. (Where the lift arm goes into the housing under the seat.) I have about 600 hours on mine and the leak is slowly getting worse. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it.
Thanks,

Shaft leak causes:

1. Seal bad or incorrect.
2. Bushing worn or not properly sized allowing shaft to move/wobble and to
distort and wear out seal lip.
3. Bushing bore and seal bore not machined true.
4. Cracked housing allowing fluid to bypass seal completely.
5. Cracked or bent shaft, improperly machined shaft or worn shaft surface at
the sealing point causing wear or allowing fluid to bypass the seal.
6. First seal failed/defective, second seal was also defective, or
damaged/distorted during installation.

You need to remove the lift arm and determine EXACTLY where the fluid is coming from. Between shaft and seal lip, between seal body and case/housing or directly from a defect in the housing. The shaft should only rotate, can you wiggle the shaft up/down/front/rear(loose in bushing)?

Um, the lift arms don't connect to the hydraulic sump, They're supported by the rear differential housing. So it might not actually be hydraulic fluid you're looking at. There's a chance it's draining down from the hydraulic sump ABOVE the diff housing. But if it isn't, you might actually be looking at gear oil.

I am going to assume the bushing/bushings went bad and damaged the seal.

To get a good look at the lift shaft for possible wear .. it will have to be removed and that means removing the lift box. Not a real big job... just heavy.

Before too much advice is deposited in the wrong account here, please define "rear housing". I interpreted that to mean the rear differential housing.

If you're trying to describe where the UPPER lift arms come out of the hydraulic housing, please confirm. The diagram here should help depict my question http://johnstractor.com/files/HydPowerLift.jpg If you're talking about the arms coming outa that big box in the middle, then I retract my previous advice

I agree with Ranch hand. You need to remove the lift box and check the bushings, seals, sealing leaf, and shaft.I would bet on the bushings or defective seal.I'm trying to remember now,but I think the seal shown in the parts book it not the correct size as what is required ? Ronald chime in here if you know for sure. This has came up before. So make sure to check the size on your existing seals before you order new ones.If you decide to tackle the job we keep all of the parts on the shelf.I will try and check my notes about the size

Hi Tommy, There are two seals ........ the difference is the width.

Both can be used. The thicker/wider one is used without the sealing leaf.

The new style 200 lift boxes I have seen does not use the sealing leaf.

It is always good to have the OE number as a ref.

I have the numbers in the shop.

On a side note, try to read the numbers before removing old seal..... it's a Chinese thing .........
