I refuel my tractor and lawn mower with the typical 5 gallon can's a couple of jerry cans and a few plastic ones. Right now they sit outside in front of a garage bay that I don't open the door on very much. Its kind of a mess and I cant tell whats full or empty. Many years ago I saw on a farm a simple rack labeled empty and full. Man had a number of helpers and that the way he kept track of usage.

Does anyone have any plans or pictures of what they use to safely store their 5 gallon fuel cans? Just wondering? I did do a search, but did not find much.

Thanks for any help.

I can tell if my jug is full, half full or empty just by lifting it, hiccup. I put my 5 gal. jugs on a heavy duty shelf, 3 ft. above the floor

Safely is an open ended pursuit, by definition plastic gas cans are unsafe but we all use them. Restrict access and random sparks is the best you can do, buy some 55 gallon drums with a removable lids would likely meet your needs. I wouldn't be smoking when I popped the top.

Not so funny story, for the last 10-years friends and co-workers of mine take a 300+ mile PWC trip from Augusta to Savannah GA and back. 15+ skis burn allot of gas and we haul 20-30 5-gal jugs in the back of a support truck. We stay in a nice hotel in Savannah and one morning I went out to the truck to get something and there were 4 or 5 hotel workers taking their morning smoke break leaning over the bed of the truck which was full of plastic gas cans containing 100+ gallons of fuel. Moral of the story, stay insured.
