I just purchased a JD855 and i want to add a set of rear hydraulic ports and i have a couple of questions. I am new to tractors and hydraulics. This will mainly be for a log splitter.

1. do i have to use the power beyond kit or can i do something similar to what this guy did?

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/hydraulics/100228-adding-power-beyond-3-spool.html#post1140875

2. I am confused about the power beyond kit as it seems some people can raise and lower their 3 pt with it hooked up and some can't. will i be able to use my 3pt and power beyond kit at the same time?

I am sure i will have more questions, but thanks for any responses.

Welcome to TBN Jason:D

You can do what Jim did, he just made a PowerBeyond(PB) loop and plumbed a valve into it. I did the same on my 4110.
If the PB kit is still available for your machine then that is all you need to run a logsplitter since it has it's own valve on the splitter.

The 3PH not working is on the mid-frame tractors that are set up for backhoes because the 3PH should be disabled when the backhoe is installed. I do not think you will have a problem on your machine.

Clear as mud?

The factory remote kits are no longer available from JD, but you can
do something like Jim did.

The only part you need from Deere is the small hex plug, which is the
power beyond diverter. It is installed in the right side of the main hydraulic
block, just aft of the loader valve. You can use standard ORB 90-deg
fittings on the top of the block to connect your 2 hoses that comprise the
power beyond loop. You need to take off a lot of stuff to access the
top and sides of the hyd block.

If you want one remote valve, you can install it on the right fender.
The valve must have its own power beyond port and you will T into the
hyd oil return pipe on the left side of the hyd pump for the low pressure
return. I have used the Prince RD2500s with success. The pwr byd
is necessary to provide hi press oil to the 3PH, which will be downstream of
the added valve.

If you want TWO hyd remote valves, then it is tougher for this tractor.
Installing a mono-block or stack valve on the right fender will interfere
with the loader joystick. The photo below is of a Prince RD 5200 2-spool
valve that I was preparing for a T-N-T setup n a 955. I had to use the
left fender and fab a left side tilt cylinder.
