Would someone be so kind as to post pictures of their JD 770? There is one for sale a few hours away but I would like to see one before I make the trip.

He is asking $10,700 for a 1992 JD 770 with Gears, 4WD, Loader, ROPS, Turf Tires. This seems high to me. What would be a reasonable price for this unit?

How many HP is the 770 (total and PTO)? This unit does not have a mid-PTO. Can a mid-PTO be added to this model?

I appreciate any help you can provide.

I did a little more research and found this picture on JD's used equipment finder link. However, I would still be interested in seeing any other pics you may have and I still need answers to the other questions.

The unit in the pic (unknown year) had 416 hours and they wanted $16995 with loader and backhoe. They also had a 1996 unit with 496 hours and they wanted $11500 with collarshift and loader.

The 770 has 24 gross HP and 20 PTO HP.

A mid PTO was an option, but rather it was dealer installed (so you can retrofit one)...can't help you there. If it was a dealer installed option, it shouldn't cost too much (retrofiting a 790 Deere with a mid PTO costs around $400), if the parts are available. Since the 770 and 790 share many components, finding a mid PTO conversion might not be too hard.

Do make sure it has a dual stage clutch (which allows the PTO to run while you shift gears). Modifying the tractor to a dual stage clutch is cost prohibitive.

Although the price does seem high, these older Deere machines seem to really hold their value. The prices are high enought to the point you should really look at a new 790 (the 770 successor).

I have a 670 (770's little brother). It's a tough little beast. I really like this little machine (other then the single stage clutch)...it's a worker! This machine has 19 gross HP with 17 at the PTO. I paid $8500 including loader (#60...the 770 use a #70 loader) and a 60" Befco mower.

I've attached a pic. The 770 has larger rear tires, a larger engine. Sheet metal is identical as are most of the other components (transmission, layout of the controls, etc.).

Reckon I'd offer the guy about $9500 and work from there.
