I have a 2009 JB5510 4wd w/ cab and loader. AC worked great last year, this year it won't blow cold. Fans work fine. Is this a common problem? I'm so not a tractor mechanic, that I'm not even sure which fuses to check. I added a can of coolant according to directions and it took it very quickly, maybe 30 seconds and still nothing. That leads me to think leak.

Only CORRECT method to add coolant to AC is with the proper gauges & knowledge!!!!!!!!!! Is radiator, condenser, and cab filters SPIFFY CLEAN????????

I just blew out filters, condenser and radiator pretty well. No noticeable change. My local JD service center is terrible. I'm assuming any certified AC tech could look at the AC, though. Correct?

correct but I service my own AC systems.

I service my own systems too but if you are not up to speed on the trade I recommend you have a pro look at it.

I don't recommend you add refrigerant to a system without knowing what the real issues are. Lots of ads today selling people on this idea and it is a bad practice, I think it is taking advantage of peoples ignorance.

This past couple of weeks the dust has been bad and I have used a good evaporator coil cleaner on my 4520. But that was the first time I had to clean it in four years.

I agree on the refrigerant kits advertised on TV and the NEED to check AC system for correct pressures with two gauges. It only takes a few oz's overcharge on R134A and system will stop cooling.

Gonna assume your condenser and evap are in the same locations as on my 3720. Although it's difficult because of the way JD has stacked all the heat exchangers, I keep the condenser (in front of the radiator ) and the evaporator (in the roof) as clean as possible. I use compressed air for the condenser and aerosol coil cleaner for the evap. There's a design problem with the 3720 cab though, perhaps yours has the same issue. Only about 1/3 of the evap coil is visible once the cabin filter has been removed. When I had the cab roof off for other reasons, I noticed the hidden 2/3 of the coil were filthy. Gave the whole thing a good cleaning before putting the roof back on. But it doesn't make a lick of difference how clean you get the thing, if you stick a dirty cabin filter back in. I clean my cabin filter regularly - compressed air - and change it annually.

I had AC trouble with one of my large cab tractors a couple years. Found a mobile AC repair shop which mostly works on 18 wheelers but they came to my house and repaired the unit and gave me a warranty. Turned out to be way cheaper than transporting to and from the JD dealer to get it fixed. You may want to consider that.
