Hi all,

I have a JD4500 with an Erskine front mount snow blower. I use the hydraulics that the FEL occupied to control the lift and lowering of the snow blower. The shute rotation was controlled by a 12V linear actuator, but it croaked on me and new one would have cost me approx. $250.00. I was able to procure a hydraulic cylinder and hoses from Burden Sales Surplus for a little under $150.00. I am using the unoccupied QD's that occupied the curl of the FEL as a way to control the shute rotation. Everything plummed into place nicely but, when I tried it last evening the shute snaps from left to right, right to left, or anytime I try to rotate it using the tractors hydraulics. I know just enough about hydraulics to be dangerous I am thinking that I need to restrict the flow of hydraulic oil using some kind of control valve. Looking at the Burdens Sales Surplus site, I found the following item that may work for me;

Am I on the right track? Do I need something different? What do I need? I am open to all suggestions. Thanks for your help. Roger

If the chute is moving to fast, than you are close to being on the right track. If the chute is getting "stuck" going one way than you have a different issue...But if it's indeed moving the full travel-just to fast the the inline flow restrictor is what you need, but it need to control the flow in both directions, not just in one direction like the one you linked...

Kenny,

Thanks for the help. I have full travel, right to left swing, left to right swing, etc... it just snaps both ways; perhaps under a half second for the full travel time. Kinda scarey... :) Like I said, I know just enough about hydraulics to be dangerous. That's why I asked here, I knew someone would steer me in the right direction.
