JD318 Seat replacement - Should be easy but I need help.

New member and have owned a JD318 for about 6 months now. Wanted to replace the seat but I can't get the rubber bumpers off the old seat to put on the new seat.

Any tips?

Are there just two of them?

What is the s/n of your 318 ?

IIRC they just are a friction fit. Maybe need new ones if the old are hard and cracked.

Yes, there are two of them on the back of the seat. They are Rubber type springs (round cylinders, 2" diameter, ~2" tall) that are bolted to the seat pan under the foam and then have a threaded insert that bolts to the seat spring mount. I can attach a picture if that helps. These rubber springs look like they are in really good shape. Not hard nor cracking.

I am guessing they are there just in case the metal springs bottom out so you will have a little more cushion.

The seat is in very bad shape (hence the replacement) so it was easy to tear the foam and vinyl away to reveal the rubber spring seat pan bolts. Of course the nut, bolt, and seat pan are rusted like crazy as this tractor was stored outside by the PO.

I tried an impact wrench on them and they wouldn't budge. They are now soaking with Kroil penetrant and I'll try again tonight to see if I can break them loose.

I'll also grab the s/n then too.

With the s/n, you can go to jdparts.com and look up the model 318 and the individual parts and numbers for the seat that you have. There appear to be several seat options.

There is a better penetrant than Kroil. It is called "Blue Creeper" and not well known. But much, much superior to Kroil or PB.
